Day 14 – Tuesday 5th February (Sapporo to Narita)

Today we set off for home with the recent news that our flight to Brisbane had been delayed and we would need to spend another night in Tokyo. We left the hotel in Sapporo and made our way to the station through about 2kms of underground walkways to keep us warm from the freezing conditions and slippery roads. Sapporo is a beautiful city. It has all the bright lights and hustle and bustle of Tokyo whilst keeping a small town feel with extremely friendly people. The snow festival was spectacular and has certainly evolved from when I last saw it 15 years ago. The flight to Tokyo was smooth as was the transfer from Haneda domestic airport to Narita international airport. We made our accommodation arrangements for our delayed flight and had a chance to do some last minute shopping at the airport. We then took a 10min bus ride to our hotel in Narita and I am pretty sure the students were very happy with their new accomodation. Dinner was fantastic largely due to the chocolate fountain and fresh ice cream. We all thanked Mrs Van Rosmalen for organising a fantastic tour and went to bed knowing that breakfast was at 5:30am!
